McHealthy

It's been 2 months since I have been to McDonald's and went today. The news about McDonald's starting to label has been going on for a while but no real evidence, at least by me, has been found that they are going through with that. I decided to go back again today and see if any real changes had been made and if they remember to fill up the printer with ink and paper. To my surprise, they had a nutrition sheet but it was very minimal and seemed a bit off. I don't know if I fully believe everything they put on  that. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this time they did have some in stock. Another thing I was looking out for was the labeling on the wrappers of the burgers. That was something that I did not see. No burgers I saw come out of the kitchen had any sort of labeling on them which confused me. Why all the hype that they are making a change if they don't go through with it. I did notice that they had healthier items on their menu such as salads, fruit and yogurt parfaits and fruit bowls. It is definitely an improvement but I'm still not sure why they are giving false advertisements. I am impressed with the changes they are making, small but it's better than nothing.

McSuperSizeMe

Last night I was flipping through channels on the television with my roommates when the movie Super Size Me was on. I had heard about it and I pretty much knew the overall message of the movie. This came on at a pretty good time because of my current interest in McDonald's and what they are about, especially after my last visit. I ended up staying up watching it while everyone else fell asleep. My views on this are wishy washy. For one, it makes me feel even worse about people eating there. The main guys health went down while he gained several pounds from eating there for every meal. This proves how unhealthy their food really is. But if you look at it from a different perspective, he only ate at McDonald's, everyday for a month. Think about how much someone would gain if they ate donuts for every meal or ate bread with every meal. You would gain just as much weight but you don't see people making movies or writing papers on how unhealthy the food is. So is it really as bad as people make it out to be? I'm still very curious and want to find more out!

McLies

Surprisingly enough, I was the DD again this weekend and what better place to take a car full of drunk girls than McDonald's to let the grease soak up all the alcohol they took in hours before? This was not even a week after I did my research on McDonald's and was not as upset as I was the last time I went. I couldn't bring myself to actually order anything this time but I stood in line with my friend while she ordered another Happy Meal. Like last weekend, they asked if she wanted apple slices with it. So far so good. When the meal came to us, I looked everywhere for a label of some sort or a list of the ingredient on the wrapper, but I got nothing. I could have sworn I read in a paper about how they came out with labels for the wrappers so I was a little skeptical if that was just McDonald's pretending to make a change. I went up to the counter and asked if they did what they said they do and she responded with "We have a nutrition sheet but I think we ran out." I was taken back by this response. If McDonald's is the worlds largest fast food chain and is trying to make a change for the better, then how could they possibly be out of nutrition labels? It's not like they can't afford paper, or ink so why don't they have any? Then that led to me questioning everything they claimed they were doing. Were there any nutrition labels in the first place? If I wasn't skeptical about McDonald's before, I definitely am now. Should we trust them at all?

McLovin' It

So after visiting McDonald's for the first time in ages this past weekend, I decided to see what was up with all this change. I did some research and found some very interesting and pleasing results. It turns out I'm not the only one turned off by McDonald's unappetizing menu. It also turns out that I'm not the only one who thinks they should make a change. McDonald's agrees with me! They are aware of their bad reputation (it would be hard not to be) and are intrigued to make changes. That's what I like to hear! I found out that they are now labeling their menu items and giving out information about some of those mysterious ingredients no one knew anything about. It is pretty clear that McDonald's is the leading fast food chain in the world so they obviously are doing something right. I'm curious to see if all this healthy change will benefit or damage the business. McDonald's is moving up on my scale but I'm not all the way convinced that I would be okay with eating it myself. I actually am not all the way sure that I will ever be okay with eating it ever even with all the changes just because the name McDonald's alone will have a permanent reputation of greasy, unhealthy food. But we will see!

McFruit

To be honest, I have never been a big fan of McDonald's and their fake, greasy, calorie infested food, but more recently I've been impressed with their changes. I was with DD-ing for me friends this past weekend and they MADE me stop by McDonald's so they could grab something cheap on the way home. When I walked in, I was already not feeling it and I had a look of disgust on my face. By the way, I haven't been to a McDonald's in many many years. So I was quite surprised when my friend orders a cheeseburger Happy Meal and they asked if she wanted apple slices and a juice as her sides. I was utterly shocked, no pun intended. Since when has McDonald's has anything healthy, let alone fruit?! I'm completely impressed with the idea of not just providing fattening foods  but also something a little more nourishing. This is a good start for McDonald's and the next time I go, I won't have such a sour face as I walk in the doors.
